My sister took a year off from starting college to work and travel. She is saving money to go to Hawaii for two months. Do you think it's too much for her to handle 80+ hours at work a week?

Yes, working that long is stressful on the body and mind. She needs to take a break. Money isn't everything. For being 18 she should be enjoying life and going to college.

As long as she is doing well at both jobs and her health is not suffering, I don't think that it is too much. Some people can handle more stress than others, so if she is succeding in both jobs, I see no problem with her working 80+ hours a week. Many people, such as those who run their own business, work 100 or more hours per week and do fine.

However, if you can tell that she isn't handling the stress of two jobs, you (or someone else) should talk to her and make her understand that she can't handle the pressure.

You don't give enough information to really know your sister's situation. She may be very driven, very focused. Plenty of medical school students work those kind of hours, not to mention waitresses, policeman and nurses who often pull extra shifts to make more money.

Two jobs on their own may be just what she needs to regroup and refocus on what she needs in life. No boyfriend, no obsessive hobbies, no educational demands would allow this kind of work ethic.

But you have good reason to be concerned - is she so focused on making money, she's willing to risk her health and well-being? Some people trade one obsession for another - working constantly could be just her "obsession", not something really healthy for her.
Support her decisions while you can, life is quick...

If she can handle it, then she should go right ahead. I work two (part time) jobs and go to school full time. It really depends on the person. If she can't handle it, you'll see it in her and she'll eventually decide to quit. If she doesn't quit, maybe she just really wants to put in a little work to get waht she wants. There's nothing wrong with that.

That de[ends on her. A lot of people here in Hawaii have to work 2 jobs just to make ends meet. It is expensive here in paradise.
