I've only deleted one. I only got one answer and it was a smartass answer. I didn't want him to get the 10 points of a best answer, so I deleted it.

I've never done it myself, but I've noticed several cases where other people HAVE done it.

It seems to me that the reasons are;
1. They made some sort of error in asking the question - maybe the answer is TOO obvious, or they made a typo - in one case some poor dude stated that 'bento' is the Japanese word for rice! These errors result in VERY insulting replies, and I think the asker just gets too embarrassed and deletes the question to save face.
2. Useless answers that are not worth giving 10 points to - and if you let it go to voting they'll vote for themselves 10 times and get best answer anyway, so if the question is deleted they can't get the extra points!

I don't think anyone would delete their own question just because they received a correct ANSWER!! Surely they'd just give that answer 10 points - and receive an extra 3 points themselves...?!?!

Perhaps the answers they received were so painful to them that they would rather pull the question and not be hurt. For instance, a guy over in the Lebanon wrote that he lost his uncle and cousin in the fighting last night and some moron gave him a big "So what? Stop whining!" kind of answer.... he pulled the question moments later. I don't blame him.

3 reasons,
1 is either you have got the answer what you are expecting.
2, if you have not got the right answer.
3, when you by yourself realize either to keep the question or delete it, if

well, sometimes i delete mine because:
1. it never gets any answers
2. it was a stupid question to ask and i can find the answer another way without wasting 5 points
3. i only get stupid answers or answers that are good but i can't do
there are more reasons but i can't think of any right now

Some people ask questions that they later realize are inappropriate so they delete them.

because maybe the asker found the answer another way. maybe before everyone had a chance to answer, the question is solved. so the asker just deletes it.
