Actually, it was just "The Air That I Breathe." It was the largest-selling English hit for the Hollies - lead singer Allan Clarke. Released in the US on Epic Records, EMI in England.

it was the hollies released on 9th feb 1974 reached number 2 in the charts stayed in the charts for 13 weeks re-released 3rd sept 1988 whent to number 60 in the charts stayed in the charts that time for 5 weeks

Albert Hammond did write and sing it but it was also on aPhil Everly album "Star Spangled Springer before the Hollies brought it out

The only version i know of is the "The Hollies". Alan Clarke sang it. He had a great voice too. Nice looking also.
