But I'm really not sure what it is. I've had her for three years, she's fairly small, and has always been healthy. I don't know much about tumors when it comes to rats though...I've only ever had one dog get cancer, and his tumors were hard lumps.

Her's is on her belly, right inside her back leg. It's soft and squishy, and it doesn't seem to hurt her at all when you touch it or press it, she doesn't even flinch. She's limping, but only because it's right by her leg and in her way when she walks. It's a bit bigger than a bottle cap, and egg shaped, and only sticks out a tiny bit. She's not acting any different than usual that I've noticed.

So I was just wondering if it was for sure a tumor, or if maybe she has a tiny cut or something and it's just pus...I couldn't see anything but I may have overlooked it. I'm going to take her to the vet, but I thought I'd ask here too, since I won't be able to take her until monday.

Thanks in advance!

Going to the vet is the best answer. Too bad you can't go sooner. Try to keep her comfortable and check that she is eating and taking water.

I used to have 2 pet rats. My biology teacher was giving away stock from the science lab, so I took them, Suzie & Ignatz. Cutest little pets around, so I know how you must like yours, too.

Good luck, I hope everything works out OK for both of you.

hi there - neither of the hyperlinks paintings for me im afraid - but when the lump is just below the dermis and across the shrink again or some thing - then it sounds to me like a sabaceous cyst - thats only a big @$$ spot with puss within - if its squishy then thats the puss crammed sack beneath the dermis - the rat can have burst the cyst with its enamel inflicting it to empty and bleed and scab over - and thats one intelligent rat if it has coz the cyst does have to be drain or it is going to develop and infect different places - I burst my guinea pigs cyst with a pin - dont fear it didnt think a factor and all this nasty mayonaise $h!t got here out and it used to be terrible. if ure now not cleansing out the rats BED discipline any longer than two times an afternoon then the cyst is YOUR fault ! :-P he might want an antibiotic if the cyst keeps to develop. If the rat is relatively historic then it COULD be a tumour however i doubt it. Best of good fortune - but when ure now not one hundred% definite - get ureself down that vets! xxx

Tumors are very common in rats, some are lucky and get benign ones, others are not so lucky (such as my rat). While he did limp his tumor brought him pain, lethargy, and sent him into a coma. His was malignant and a pretty nasty one, but it's normally pretty obvious when an animal is deeply sick.

She might just have a sprain and swelling. That happens a lot too, especially if there is a second and they play together or you let them run around freely. Give it a day's rest and if it's better, things are probably okay. If not...

ok, that definitely sounds like a tumor. its a squishy bump that doesnt hurt her but inhibits her movements? yep, probably a tumor.
p.s. i've worked as a vet tech for a couple years so i have some experience in this

yea my rat has exactly the same thing. like you say, it doesn't seem to bother here and there's really nothing a vet will do.

its probly just a tumor..rats tend to get them..or respitory problems..

it wont hurt her..and it wont kill her...its just something in the way...
