You consider yourself to be smart and lazy? Ok, then answer this....what is a wouls? Also, you state "always has been". I believe in grade school I learned that should be stated as "always have been."
Now, onto your question. To call someone dumb and hardworking is wrong. Chances are if you are diligent (I know you consider yourself smart but just in case...diligent means hard working) then you are not dumb. On the other hand I find assiduous (yet another word for hard working...enjoying the lesson?) people to be highly intelligent One may lack the knowledge that another has obtained but that does not make them dumb.

A lazy smart person is such a waste. I know several of those and it saddens my heart. Smart people don't even have to work hard. They can work smart and do well.

I have a friend that not get a diploma or GED. He is very handy though. His spelling and grammer is not the best, but he brings home $4000 to $5000 dollars PER WEEK. He details cars, cleans restaurants, and does all kinds of maintenance work.
His favorite thing to say is ....I may be a dumba$$ but I am a money making son of a gun!
I know people with degrees that don't make money like that!

It is far better to be dumb and hard working. Being a hard worker is often all a person needs to be highly successful. People who are smart and lazy are wasting their talents because their laziness keeps them from achieving through, and reaping the most reward from their intelligence. My father was barely able to graduate from high school and because of his grades could not get into college. But, he has always been an extremely hard worker. He has built a multi million dollar business and has been much more successful than his high school class valedictorian. If you read Thomas Edison's biography it tells you,Edison was not really a genius, he just worked really really hard at the things that he was interested in.

Initially, the smart person is better off, but he will become less smart with time if he lets his mind slack off because of laziness. The dumb person, meanwhile, will improve his mind because of his work ethic and become smart. So in the long run, the person with the greatest effort is better off. Still, there's always the chance that the smart person will notice himself slipping and change his motivation, or that the dumb person will be disappointed at first by his difficulties and settle back into blissful ignorance.

The dumb guy who graduates college might have a better shot at it if the smart one is lazy and do nothing but sleep in his/her mother's house then the dumb guy wins. Hope the dumb one has common senses.

Smart and lazy. If you are smart you can make your fortune fast then retire and be "lazy". If you are dumb and hard-working you could work yourself to death and still never get ahead.

A happy medium of smart and hard-working suffices to help the majority of successful people get ahead.

A trick question. If work isn't out of love, then is it lazy, smart, dumb or hard....probably hard.
