Every party reflects American values...often contradictory "values" depending on which party and which American you're talking to.

The idea that there is one sacrosanct definition of the correct set of American values is absurd. If that were true then there would only be one party. After all, who would care about an opposing view if we all had the same monolithic set of beliefs and values?

There is only one critical and universal American value in my view: Diversity of Opinion.

Too often we become so passionate about our opinions that all we can do is bash the other side. But do the bashers EVER really listen?

Every place on the bell curve of political thought is a critical element of the sum total of American values. The fact that we don't persecute people for having the wrong opinion (or political party) is what makes America special.

I don't think either party can fully reflect American values--some of the opinions of the Republicans are very common, and some of the opinions of the Democrats are widely-accepted as well. Most people feel that one party or the other has the correct view on the majority of issues and support that party, although on specific issues they may feel contrary to their party. I think in order to have a party that fully represents the American view you would almost have to form a new one with a bit of each in them.

The party is a helpful label only - the candidate is more important.
not to sound too academic but ..... if one defines values to be those found in The Declaration of Independence, Bill of Rights/
The Consttitution, English Common Law, The MagnaCarta,
The Holy Bible, The Koran, as well as many other great books -
I also wonder. I did major in POLISCI, some time ago. I believe that campaign finance reform is overdue to the corrupting $'s &
that term limits should also be considered. My choice is DEM.

First, it's necessary to define American values. Politically, we can immediately eliminate the extreme right and the extreme left. These people represent ill-defined, close minded self-serving values, which hardly fit in with our population in general.

So it's probably safe to conclude that American values are best represented by a centrist: from either of the Republicans or Democrats.

There is no definite answer on this question. If you're a Dem, you're going to say Democrats, if you're a Republican, you're going to say Republicans. It's really a matter of opinion not fact. I would say the Democrats since I am one. Not only that, but they are the party of the people, not the wealthy 1%.

Libertarian. Upholds traditional liberal ideas, not the bastardized version of neo-liberalism that is plagueing America. Ideas like the right to life, liberty and private property. Ideas like small government, not "givernment". Ideas like free market economies where individuals are not resticted on what they can earn. That's why the Libertarian Party is the party of the future.

You are going to have to define American values. Does that mean valuing freedom and independence? Does that mean valuing fame and money?

It depends on exactly which values you are referring to.
