Sorry Joy, but the first one to record it was Dee Dee Warwick (Dionne's younger sister) in '67. It went to #88 on the pop charts, but went to #13 on the R&B charts.

Madeline Bell's rendition, done in '68, went to #32 on the pop charts.

The most successful rendition, which also occurred in '68, was a duet with Diana Ross & the Supremes and The Temptations, which went to #2 on both the pop and R&B charts.
