Because the lobbyists that give the most money are from the Pharmaceutical industry. The drugs here don't really cost much to make but the mark up on them is outrageous (my husband at one time worked for Bristol Meyer Squibb and told me all about it) and Canadian drugs are the same but cheaper. The Pharmaceutical companies don't want any competition that will cut into their profit margin.

Are you serious? Eli Lilly and Merck were squealing like scalded dogs, that's why. How dare we free and independant Americans actually try to exercize our freedom to travel and purchase much needed medicine at a discount! Shame on us seniors for actually trying to strectch the meager bucks we have. Can you believe those sufferers of catastrophic diseases going to Canada to get prescriptions filled and paying only a fraction of what those same drugs cost here in the good ole US of A?
The people of this nation suffer under George Bush as we have never suffered before! His abuses just continue unabated. And we do nothing. I knew Americans were apathetic, but man! We are worse than sheep going to the slaughter! We're even helping our butcherers.
Outrageous oil company profits that are absolutely obscene. And we accept the lame reasons they give for the sky-rocketing price of gas. It's BS people! When are we going to wake up? We're being raped! The least Bush and his republicans could do is give each American a large jar of vasoline!
And where is my man Bill Clinton, or his beautiful wife Hillary? Where is Sen. Kerry? Why aren't the Democrats storming the barricades?
We are just so f--ked!

The U.S. Government has been clamping down on drugs coming in from Canada for several reasons:
***The American drug companies, big contributors to politicians' political campaigns, do not want their drugs to be sold CHEAPER by Canadian companies into the U.S. and take the business away from American companies, thereby cutting into their profit. The U.S. companies put pressure on our elected politicians to stop the flow of drugs from outside of our country.
***Our Federal, State and Local Governments ALL lose sales taxes when the drugs are not bought inside the U.S.
***OurFederal Food & Drug Administration are supposed to protect us against defective drugs...those we buy inside the U.S. and those that might be counterfeited (and defective) by outside companies (e.g., Iran).

If prescription drugs are bought for low prices in Canada, our drug companies will lose thousands of dollars resulting in dropping employees, low production rates, and the companies wont be able to make enough money to pay their taxes. These are all problems that the government would have to deal with.

Simply because the drug companies or Corporations pay the republicans to stop the importation of medication by Americans. The pay is in the form of writing a provision into a congressional law that makes it against the law to import medication from abroad. This is the way the Republican Government repays Americans for voting them into office.

The government loses money when people buy from other countries. It's cheaper to buy from Canada, but then the prescription companies in America lose tons of cash.

Regulation between the two countries is hard to manage, just like Mexico. But the main reason is they cant money on it through customs, and the Health care system in Canada is better organized, then ours . I remember someone called Hillary that was going to straighten that out.

Greedy Pharmaceutical companies lobby the federal government so that can have exclusivity in the market. To hell with the consumer. It's all about profits and kickbacks.

Because the drug companies being big business tell our government this is bad. Our government being the slave to big business says "Ok, we'll stop them from getting the affordable drugs they need to survive."
And no, I am not a Liberal. Just calling it as I see it.
