Personally, my definition of socialism doesn't have anything to do with government involvement in economics, but I'll assume that's what you mean.
Large corporations have a lot of cash. The American political process allows much of that cash to be used to influence politics. So the more cash you have, the more influence over politics you have. If you're the head of a corporation, your primary concern is over economic issues. If you don't use your cash reserves to influence the politics of the nation in your favor, then somebody else with a lot of money will. So it becomes an arms-race of sorts - everyone trying to buy their way into politics before the other guy can drive you out of business with their own lobbying.

I believe the Ken Lay's and Bernie Ebbers are a thing of the past. Sometimes the government needs to help a company to keep jobs and the economy going. Chrysler was one such company. It repaid the government in no time and look at the successes it has now. Most company's stand on their own though. If you are referring to tax credits, why would we not give incentives to any company that will hire workers and provide good wages. These workers all pay taxes and build economies. A poor man will never give you a job.

Socialism demands the greater equitable distribution of wealth and an financial equipment in keeping with human desires... not capital needs. it quite is not socialism in any respect.. it quite is crony capitalism. the undemanding joe is bailing out the comparable those that created this mess.... so what's the lesson? F*ck up an entire financial equipment on account which you're grasping... and you get rewarded... whilst people who have been given harmed from their F*ck united statesget punished? hey... does not look honest to me the two... yet permit's not confuse this with socialism.

Capitalism and Socialism to the extremes are very similar. In one the government owns all the industries in the other the industries own the government.
