There are two possibilities for getting your rotors fixed, one involving what is called turning the rotors and the other outright replacement.

If the rotors you have are not so badly warped that they can be put on a metal lathe and "turned" that is to say, they spin the rotor and a metal cutting blade shaves the high points off until the rotor is flat and smooth you can expect to pay about $15 to $20 per rotor if you remove them yourself and take them to be turned, or about $45 per rotor if they remove them for you, turn them, and reinstall. Of course when they do this you are likely to be told you need new brake pads and you will need to ask them to show you to determine if that is really true. Otherwise they will essentially get you to pay extra for the new pads, which, incidentally, they have to remove anyway to get the rotors off.

Now if you need new rotors, they can be had at any N.A.P.A. parts store for about $45 each for that van (I've owned two Aerostars and have done this job several times myself). Then if you pay to have them installed, expect to add about one hour's labor at whatever shop you choose, for say $75.

Now I will tell you, changing the pads and rotors on an Aerostar is one of the easiest brake jobs I have ever had to perform, as the ingenious way Ford has designed the pad installation and removal really reduces the time. I can do the whole job in about 30 minutes.

If you should like details on how to do it, please feel free to contact me at anonymourati@msn.com and I will describe the process.

It requires very few tools, and really is something of a pleasure to do on a Saturday morning.

At our dealership to turn the rotors on the vehicle and replace the pads usually run about $100.00 for the front. If you are handy with a set of tools and have a Chilton's manual you can do the job yourself. You remove the rotors and take them to your area parts house. Most have a brake lathe and can turn them. That usually cost $12.50 ea. purchase the pads and then reinstall. if the rotors are worn to the point where turning them will cut them down below the minimum thickness then they will tell you and you will need to purchase new. I would expect my local parts store to sell the rotors from $12.00 to $50.00 ea. If you choose not to do the work yourself you have an idea of what the parts cost and when you take it to a shop you will know how much they are making off of the job. You make the decision. Good luck.

Well, 2 questions for you bud. What kind of car, and do you want quality or crap?

Added: The rotors won't be too bad, but the labor, they will try and talk you into a brake job. Like others saying, maybe upto $100 or so. I'd shop around.

You can have the rotors resurfaced, and if the brake pads are still good use the same ones. New rotors will be around $50 a piece, plus repacking bearings with rotor replacement.

My Buick Regal just cost me about $100 for both front rotors (new ones) and 4 break pads ... If still thick enuff , the old rotors can be "turned down " on a lathe .....saving you a few bucks .CHAIN STORES will rob you . Go to a private mechanic - SHOP AROUND

Ya probably, you gotta know where to go for the best deal first of all, second its not the part that will break you it'll be the labor. I'd call around to check the price of rotor if I were you. If your like me I get my rotor for about 25$ and replace it myself, or find someone to do it for me
