There are far worse things threatening this world than WalMart. Have you not listened to the news this month? Besides, it's too late to worry about jobs being outsourced and goods being brought in from overseas. These things were settled by trade agreements that are decades old and there's no going back. That ship has already sailed. Time to wake up and smell the coffee. If you want home made clothes start raising sheep and warm up the spinning wheel. Park your car and buy a horse and wagon because even if you drive a Ford part of it was made overseas.

What I don't understand is why people walk out of Walmart (often with their children) and do not look before blindly walking across the street to their car. I understand that the pedestrian has the right of way - but they do not even turn their heads to see if someone is flying by. Why would they endanger their children like this? Why wouldn't they try to teach their kids to be careful?
Sometimes they even give a nasty look to the car waiting for them to cross. This seems to be an occurance at EVERY Walmart I have ever been to - in over 6 states. What is with it?
Back on topic - the jobs being outsourced are NOT only factory type low paying jobs - technology jobs, customer service, etc are jobs for the middle class. And, we send so many low paying jobs to other countries and say "well they are low paying jobs" - yet we pay for people on unemployment - why not encourage people on unemployment to work - then worry about how much they make. Like it or not, some people can only do low paying jobs.

I agree..not only Walmart but also the Home DSepot and such...they have made it impossible for someone to open a small business any more...they sell everything, no more small camera shops, small clothing stores, local grocers...people buy everything from these places, and one corporation makes all the money and gets richer, the little guy gets a jobs for $6/hour.
The fact is Bum that American products are still better than foreign products, but they are more expensive because we have labor laws, and foreign countries do not..when you buy that product from China or Taiwan that keeps peopel working overseas for dollars a day..in return jobs are lost here...all because people are selfish and only care abput savingthemselves a dollar instead of paying more to keep Americans working, in return this would provide a better eway of life for everyone in America... I always look at the tag and try to buy American..it is very hard, especially wih clothing and electronics..when it comes to cars, American cars last a hell of a lot longer than foregn,..show me a 1990 Toyota, and I will show you 10 Chevrolets in better shape the same year..show me a 1980 BMW and I will show you 20 Chevys in better shape the same year, if you can find any show me a 1970 Jap car..and I will show you50 American cars still in better shape..the foreign car is as good for 5 years so if you lease a car and get rid of you are doing OK, but if you plan on buying it out and running for 8 years, you will have a hard time keeping it running, the US automakers still amke 10 year cars...isnt it funny that kids go to college hoping to come otu and get a job, but buy so many foreign products that, when they come out the jobs arent there..they should think of buying American products as an investment in their own future, isnt funny to see some rich lady volunteering in a homeless shelter while driving up in her Mercedes, when if she just bought the American car that homeless person would have a job and not be on the street inthe 1st place.
BUY AMERICAN, from local merchants , and spread teh wealth, stop making billionaires and help everyone earn a living

An Internationalist you are not. My mom worked as a seamstress for a northern company located in the south. She didn't want me to follow her into a low paying industrial career. I didn't, but I appreciate and respect those in developing countries who do.
Today; a real human being is earning a living, raising a family, and enjoying life thanks to western outsourcing. If you or your friends (I'm guessing you're a western-educated-well fed person) really wants those entry-level Industrial Manufacturing job.....you may just be setting your sights too low.
This is the 21st Century and we in the West need to ask our people to train for the Post-Industrial Phase of Western development. WalMart is not the problem; it's people that think we can and should go backwards to the "good ole days" of following Daddy into the General Motors plant for a 30 year stable job, medical care and certain retirement. Or that the G'ment will or Should care for us them!!
I'm sorry that you can't see the handwriting on the wall.

You know, it was just a few years ago that Walmart had a campaign that said they only bought goods "Made in the USA." That was shortly after Sam Walton's death, I do believe, in the mid-1990s.
Of course, that's not true today. Many brands and department store products are made in other countries.
How do I know this for sure? I am an American citizen currently visiting India. There are many factories here that make goods for other department stores, like Walmart and Target, as well as many major US brands. Many of the workers in these factories would be extremely lucky to make Rs 5,000 ($100) a month.
We wonder why so many people from other countries think negatively about us and our country---maybe it's because we exploit their workers and flaunt our wealth?
To someone sleeping on the street for lack of a home, in the 2nd most populated country in the world, even the poorest of Americans are considered very wealthy.

"I completely disagree. The jobs that are going overseas are low-wage manufacturing jobs requiring minimal skills. The products made overseas are typically designed here, which means highly skilled jobs that pay well. But the real kicker is that trade creates value. (If it did not, it would not happen.) Hence, we are better off trading with China or wherever, and Wal-Mart has brought more good but inexpensive product to market than anyone else, ever."
Sorry you are wrong. Many companies are opening up research facilities in china and filling them with chinese nationals who have science and engineering PhD's obtained in the west. At the same time these companies are not expanding or shrinking their research facilities here in the US. When the high tech jobs are all overseas, what do we have left?

If we still want to afford to buy, the stuff will be outsourced because Americans are not willing to work for less money because then they can not afford to live. You know companies are not willing to take less profit. It is all a vicious circle. why not lower our taxes. Have the president/governors/mayors and Congress work for a stipend. They are living better than most of the people in this country. They get all kinds of perks at our expense any way.

Wal-Mart is one of the best things to happen to our country. They provide tons of jobs, and they sell stuff at a cheap price. Let's say, for example, that by shopping there you save 10% versus what you would normally pay. That is 10% more money that you can put back into the economy by buying things that you would not have been able to afford before. Thus improving the economy and making more jobs.
Capitalism is great. Hurray Wal-Mart!

Ahaha, I think we all agree that a lot of things from overseas are better than things made in the US. Cars are and example... I know your country's money is going down the shi*ter, but it's not just wal mart. There is the President to consider, the armed forces, etc.
