mine is 5 months too, isn't this a great age? well, the stage 2 foods are usually composed of more than one thing. if you have given him apples and you have given him bananas then stage 2 apples with bananas would be ok. the reason being the stage ones are usually a single food and you want to feed new foods one at a time. my baby's doctor said no meet or green veggies until 6 months. so my boy gets a lot of fruits and yellow veggies plus rice and oatmeal cereals. also with the stage 2 you wanna be sure it isn't too thick, you can add water until it is an acceptable consistency. good luck

After 6 mo and he can eat a whole jar of number 1 foods. The new research says that you should wait until 6 mo to start solids (cereal) then add a new food every 3 days, and it doesn't matter the order, veggies, fruits, or even meats. If you are really concerned, talk to you doctor first! They are the best source of trustworthy advice.

I am a mother of 4 girls and a day care teacher for infants and toddlers. From experience stage 2 foods are pretty much the same as stage one foods the only difference is the container is larger and the foods are mixed together instead of one ingredient. Like Sweet potato and apples together instead of just applesauce and sweet potato seperate. As long as you baby can handle all the single ingredient baby foods go ahead and start stage two foods. I have a 9 month old who just started on table foods and she is loving it.

Don't be in such a hurry...You really shouldn't start solids until 6 months. Some doctors recommend 4 months if your baby is ready. But really at this age it is just to get accustomed to eating. He really only needs breast milk or formula at this point...Every baby is different, so there really isn't a specific age. Just follow your instincts. If he seems to be doing really well eating and has a big appetite then start him on the stage 2 after he is at least 7-8 months. If he gags, then he is not ready.

wait until you've fed him a large variety of stage 1 foods, and he's comfortable with the eating/swallowing experience. there's really no "right age" for stage 2 -- it's just about when your baby is ready.
note: some stage 2 foods (like the sweet potato souffle) contain eggs, which most pediatricians don't recommend until your baby is 12 mos..... so if you're not sure, read the ingredients. (my son puked every time he had sweet potatoes, and we couldn't figure out why... it was the eggs.)

When you witness your son exhibit the mashing needed for chewing, you can start him on #2 foods. Even though those foods are still pretty soft, they are more firm than the #1 and help to reinforce the mashing technique that your son will need for solid foods. I started my son on #2s at 8 months. And he did just fine.

At 6 months. I gave my son rice cereal at 4, stage one at 5 and stage two at 6, but thats only if he/she is good with the stage one. But, don't give them ANY mixed foods till you have had him on (for example) bananas and applesauce EACH for one to two weeks, so you know he's not allergic, then you can give him stage two mixed apples and bananas. Need to talk? I have a 8 months old... IM or email me... caseyschik2004@yahoo.com.

your son is 5 mos...he shouldn't be starting the Stage 1 even yet... no solids until 6 months!!!!! The sooner you introduce new foods, the more likely he will grow up with more allergies....not to mention digestive problems because his digestive tract isn't ready....
