indiginous to south america chinchillas are a cute little critter most often used for fur. Chinchillas must regularly bathe in dust or volcanic ash to remove oil and moisture that gathers in their thick fur. In fact, they have the highest fur density of any land animal with more than 20,000 hairs per square cm their coat comes in many different varieties and the safest route of getting one would be to contact a breeder. Prone to excited sounds, chinchillas will also emit chirps and calls according to their mood. Over time an owner will hear a multitude of these orations, all indicating the animal's personal state. they are very very fragile physically and aren't a good kids pet.

I took care of one at the hospital I was working at .He was a little on the wild side but in a few days he got to be so loving it was hard to see him go back to the pet store. they are so soft, and they love to be held. when he saw me coming to take care of him he would whistle .they are easy to care for . I would get one in a heart beat but my dogs would kill it if they got the chance. they do have teeth and will bite , so make sure the one you get has been handled. you will have to trim its nails and its teeth.
