Going to Chicago in three weeks, Roadfood.com suggests it and some lady included it in her "1000 places to see before you die book," wondered if I should take a 10 mile train detour for lunch there.

I love superdawg!!! The only problem is it gets so crowded on weekends that its hard to park your car and the area is very congested. If you have time to kill its a great place to go.

I LOVE Superdawg but it really is off the beaten path as far as far as tourist sites. i do not recommend taking a cab there to expensive if you can even get one to drive you that far north. You can do a bus which is not to bad if you combo it with the blue line train to Jefferson Park or something from downtown. If you want to do that you can go here to plan a trip ther on the CTA http://www.yourcta.com/maps/tripplanner.html. If you are driving or renting a car then I say GO and make sure you leave room to try lots! My picks are the Hotdogs and fries for sure and maybe a Supercheesie if you can.

A must see if you're into that "roadside attraction" stuff (biggest ball of twine, world's largest fiberglass sturgeon...). It's like the old diners from "Happy Days". In fact, I believe on Saturday summer nights, people cruise there in their old refurbished cars. you can drive in and order from a speaker, or order on foot and sit outside. It's got a cool retro design which is pretty much the same as the original place. and yes, the giant he-man hot dog and his girlfriend are there on the roof. Foodwise, the stuff is great. Hot dogs with those snappy casings, great fries, choice of toppings.. good stuff. Man, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. By all means, if you can go there, do it if it's not too much of a hassle. You won't die if you don't see it but you might be glad you did.

I really like it, but then I grew up in the neighborhood and never had to make a special trip. It's a hot dog stand, it won't change your life. It's got a huge (twenty foot) Mr. and Mrs. hot dog on the roof. It that worth it for you?
