Depends on the wattage of the bulb & whether the mesh top is really metal or plastic.

It depends if its a heat lamp or a UVB fluorescent tube. If it's a heat lamp with a metal cone around it, no because the heat builds up really quick and will burn out the bulb. If it's on a screen and the bulb doesn't touch the screen, then it's probably OK. If it's a fluorescent repti-bulb, it's best to keep it at the top of the cage unobstructed. I am hoping that you also have a fluorescent UVB light fixture??

yes, i have reptile lights that i keep on my metal screen 24-7, they never catch fire, but they can get hot if the reptile decides to try to climb on it, so make sure they can't reach it.

yes you can do it thats what the top of a glass tank has for you to put light on. anyways if you use the right heat lamp the bulb shouldn,t touch the screen anyways.
