The pin size is different from normal PC with an addon for firewire card and laptop. On Laptop it is smaller in size, so that one should be the 4 pin cable. I guess 6 pin is used for the Add On card on PC.

I first bought a firewire cable (without specifying it for LAPTOP), it didnt go into my laptop slot. Then when I specifically asked for laptop, they gave another smaller pin cable. It worked.

From this experience, I am giving the answer.

simply put, look at the port you're going to plug the cable into. Does it have four pins or six pins? These details are often over-complicated, and very intimidating needlessly. Hope this helped.
