There's a lot about social gender that's completely arbitrary and probably should go. Quite frankly, this isn't at the top of the list, but it's definitely on the list somewhere.

Why not institute a uniform that is unisex? Why force girls to wear skirts? During the winter months boys can wear trousers, while the girls are stuck wearing skirts and tights. I'm sorry, tights don't cut it to keep your legs warm. Before anyone says it, no wearing thermal/long underwear isn't an option. That's a base layer, it keeps you warm as long as you wear something over it. Beside, it looks tacky when you do that. Then you have the warm months. The boys are still in their long trousers while the girls are in skirts. Can the boys wear shorts? Not that I've heard of. So the boys burn up. I thought overheating below the waist was bad for male fertility? The girls have a more climate appropriate skirt to wear in the warm weather. Then there's the recess activities. Boys aren't the only ones that enjoy running about and playing on the bars and other things. This is easier in trousers, try it in a skirt. Unless you want to give everyone a free show of your undies, you're stuck sitting around. Some girls wear shorts under the skirts sure, but why force the inconvenience of yet another layer of clothing just to allow them to play? Oh and footwear is a joke. Why is it that the girls get to wear sandals and other breathable footwear while the boys are stuck in the hot odour inducing footwear? None of this is fair, not to mention that it enforces gender based dress codes.
My solution is simple. Institute a unisex climate based dress code that is functional. For warm weather, you have comfortable cotton shorts, of reasonable length, anywhere from mid-calf to a few inches above the knees. This also allows freedom in modesty. It's not only the girls that may want a longer cut. A cool linen shirt with short sleeves, or a polo shirt, would be great for heat regulation. A belt (or braces if you prefer) and walking shoes or sandals (reasonable sandals, nothing with the stupid break your ankle heels) would complete the warm weather uniform. If there happens to be an uncharacteristically cool day, then a sweater can be added. It is comfortable and has a degree of leniency to allow for some personal preferences.
For colder weather, long wool or poly-blend trousers would be ideal for keeping warm. You can also effectively wear thermal underwear with them. If you happen to live in a place with a moderate winter then cotton trousers would be fine. A long sleeved button down collared shirt would allow for a reasonable degree of heat regulation as well. Thermal undershirts can be worn under them. A sweater or cardigan or even an appropriate hoodie free from logos can be worn. A long coat of appropriate colour and style can be worn as well. Add an appropriate belt, boots or other reasonable winter/climate foot-wear, and you're complete.

gown has persevered to get extra casual because the late 60's as society comfortable a range of of guidelines. This form has overflowed into the church. extra conservative segments of society and older persons nevertheless carry on to lots of the former customs. It replaced into the front web page information the first time a lady wore a pantsuit into the fairway Room on the inn DuPont in Wilmington, Delaware. maximum gown codes were and nevertheless are unstated in public places. This makes it extra in all probability that they are interpreted in yet differently by diverse human beings. In church the pastor or priest gadgets the guidelines. i have heard clergymen in mass scold the human beings in reduce-offs and change flops for showing disrespect. As our society has grown extra egalitarian it type of feels appreciate is way less in many cases an automated given.

I am a Yank in the Land DownUnder and here ALL children wear uniforms. Remembering my days in school in the USA and just how many kids were judged by the clothes they wore. Its hard on children
I firmly beleive that the USA should adopt the same policy

In a perfect world your idea might work. However, in the real world children can be cruel. They are looking for reasons to make fun at each other. Even if there were no dress codes and kids were free to dress in whatever they please, then there would still be peer pressure. That's why alot of place use uniforms - it removes one area of possible harassment.

i agree that all schools should have uniforms. i also think that the sexual assignation of the uniform shouldn't exist. girls should be able to wear pants and boys should be able to wear skirts or tunics. also we should adopt a no tolerance policy for bullying. some countries will simply expel you from school because you're there to learn, not make fun of people. interestingly, these countries have a much lower crime rate than ours.

I personally think schools should adopt uniforms to keep kids on the same level. It would stop harassment based on labels and status and would allow kids to focus more on school instead of what everybody is wearing.

If a guy is confortable dressed as a girl or a girl is comfortable dressed like a guy, what's the problem? It doesn't hurt anyone. Let people be who they are.
