I am moving from the midwest to California and don't want to give up my three hamsters. Thanks for any advice.

Hamsters can not fly. It does not matter if they are on a plane or a train. It does not matter if they are in a car or a jar.

I ran into this same situation when I brought back two stray cats from California to New York. The airlines only allowed two animals of any type on a plane. And that was two for the whole plane. I was lucky that nobody else was bringing any animals otherwise I wouldn't have been able to bring them with me. If the animals have shots, they have to fly in the cargo. If they don't have shots, they have to fly in the passenger section (I'm pretty sure that's the way it was because my kittens were wild and didn't have shots)...or else it was the other way around...it didn't make sense to me at the time. But, in the long run, the airline lost them for a few hours. It cost an extra $100 to bring the cats. So my answer to you is check with the airline well in advance. At the time, about 8 years ago, that's the way it was...and they didn't care if the animal was a bird, cat, dog, fish, or elephant...and only two animals total were allowed on the flight.

If they won't let you take them, is there any way you can hide them in your mouth until you get to your destination? I know hamsters like to hide things in their mouth...maybe turn the tables on them this time!!

Yes most airlines will allow you to bring small pets in the cabin with you. You need to buy an airline-approved carrier and put it under the seat in front of you. They may charge extra, and when you book the tickets make sure you tell them you're bringing pets because they have a limit of how many pets total can be in the cabin. I know someone who flew with 3 guinea pigs from Europe to the U.S., there is no need to give up your hamsters.

When I was 12 yrs old I was flying from my mother to my father apx 3 times a year. One year I decided to bring my pet hamster. I smuggled him on the plane in my purse. We arrived fine.
But now adays I wouldn't attempt that, you should however be able to transport them in a kennel, they would have to stay with the suit cases and cargo.

Haven't you seen the new little hamster seats? You just plop 'em in their little holsters next to your snack tray!

Actually I believe as long as you have a cage and it can fit under your seat you can take them with you, but I don't know what the altitude and temperature in a plane would do to the little guys. I'd be scared to risk it. You might just want to drive.

Sure, but you have to buy an extra seat for each one.

Kidding.

They ship them all the time. Honestly, you could put it in a box below deck. I've seen boxes of crickets, snakes (thinking of a movie here) and dead bodies. Certainly, hampsters shouldn't be a problem.
