I have read the book I believe that she is affected by being raped and neglected but I have to have sources to back that up and I can't find any.

Read it again. She tells you how. Or have you even read it the first time?

She suffered with a distorted sense of sexuality... for example, she got pregnant by going up to some random kid and asking "Will you have a sexual intercouse with me?" and was basically just messed up... oh, and in later years, she became a prostitute and a madame.

Also, Mama (her grandmother) showed her the importance of standing up in the face of torment during the incident when the white girls came into the store in Stamps and made fun of Mama. Mama didn't let it get to her, and even though it upset Maya, she just stood there and acted proudly. This, plus the experience of the speaker at the eighth grade graduation, showed Maya the value of sticking to your believes and finding your voice in society even when you're being oppressed.

Furthermore, Maya's life was impacted after her experience of being stranded in Mexico; for the first time, the color of her skin was looked upon as being beautiful, and Maya felt feminine and pretty when she was asked to dance. This resulted in an internal change in Maya, because she realized that beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Oh, and just for the record, the caged bird sings because you touch yourself at night. Ktb.

She may be affected by not being able to trust men since she was raped around 11 y/o. I never heard her speak about.

You wrote "I have read the book I believe that she is affected by being raped and neglected..."
Why do you believe that? what was it that you read that made you say, "I believe that she is affected by being raped and neglected..."?

From what I have read, she turned to prostitution for a time, and drug use, too. She had a lot of difficulty with self esteem as a young woman and had a child very young.

The only way to figure that out is to read the book yourself. Your teacher will know you are cheating. Trust me.
