Add them.
9x-y = -7.
y= 9x+7
5x+18x+14=-9
23x=-23. x=-1, y=-2

I think that this is a system of equations.
4x-3y=2
5x+2y=-9
Multiply the first equation by -5 and the second by 4 to make the x's cancel out when you add the equations.
-20x+15y=-10
20x+8y=-36
23y=-46
y=-2
Plug this into one of the equations to solve for x.
4x+6=2
4x=-4
x=-1
So the answer is x=-1 and y=-2.

there are two ways: substition or elimination.
SUBS:
4x - 3y = 2
5x + 2y = -9
4x - 3y = 2
4x = 2 + 3y
x = ( 2 + 3y ) /4
x = 0.5 + 0.75y
5x + 2y = -9
5(0.5 + 0.75y) + 2y = -9
2.5 + 3.75y + 2y = -9
5.75y = -11.5
y = -2
4x - 3y = 2
4x - 3(-2) = 2
4x + 6 = 2
4x = -4
x = -1
--------------------
ELIMINATION
4x - 3y = 2 =========> [need to multiply by 2]
5x + 2y = -9 =========> [need to multiply by 3]
8x - 6y = 4
15x + 6y = -27
[add together, to eliminate 'y']
23x = -23
x = -1
4x - 3y = 2
4(-1) - 3y = 2
-4 - 3y = 2
-4 - 2 = 3y
-6 = 3y
y = -2

multiply 1st by 2
8x - 6y = 4
2nd by 3
15x+6y = -27
add
23x = 23 or x =1 and put in 1 4-3y = 2 or y = -2
x =1 and y = -2

4x - 3y = 2
5x + 2y = -9
4x - 3y = 2
-3y = -4x + 2
y = (4/3)x - (2/3)
5x + 2((4/3)x - (2/3)) = -9
5x + (8/3)x - (4/3) = -9
15x + 8x - 4 = -27
23x - 4 = -27
23x = -23
x = -1
y = (4/3)x - (2/3)
y = (4/3)(-1) - (2/3)
y = (-4/3) - (2/3)
y = (-4 - 2)/3
y = (-4 + (-2))/3
y = (-6/3)
y = -2
x = -1
y = -2
