How many people out there still have dial-up service, and why do you still have it?

Many people still have dial up service as there is no affordable option in their area. There are several areas near me that not even AOL or NetZero serve and therefore they have only one ISP available via a local non toll call.

As the phone companies expand DSL to new areas they continue to get converts. But, there are still the Dial up dihards out there. In a few short years people will be saying "If you think DSL is slow, you should have been around for the days when we had 56K dial up service"!

I do, but only because I live in a "dead zone." Can't get broadband, can't get cell phone signal, can't get a certain newspaper delivery. Only one mile from city limits. Go figure.
