Sometimes I feel lonely when I'm out and about, but I don't know what I'm lonely about or for who. I am not lonely for God if that is what you're thinking, I feel very connected to God. Maybe lots of people have this.

I am definitely not depressed. I am happily married, I keep really busy, I'm renovating an old house. Like the first answerer said it feels like something is missing.

No, I don't anymore, but I used to. It's something that can be overcome by asserting to yourself over and over that you can be happy in independence or isolation. The desire to be with others is natural, but brings about attachment and can keep you from doing things that are important or morally virtuous. I'm not a religious person, but if you have faith in God, then ask him to help you overcome this. Just keep driving it into your head that what you feel is illogical and it will go away (it really does). And find something to do or think about that you care about that can distract you. Staying busy is very good for clearing the mind of unwanted thoughts.

The thing is this, God doesn't fill all the holes in your heart by just being in your life and in your heart, He will give you things to help complete you. Take marriage: When Adam was in the Garden, walking with God everyday, he was lonely. God said that it wasn't good for him to be alone. Then God made Eve.

I'm not sayign God doesn't meet our needs, He does. I'm saying that He doesn't just fix the boat, He may hand you a cork and you will have to accept it to fix the leak. Maybe you to just sit back and let God guide you while you keep going on.

Does that make any sense?

I feel lonely a lot, for no good reason. It might be because I'm a little shy and don't have a lot of friends I can call on to go do things with and my husband works a lot (in the military), so it's like, I have to do everything alone! I hate it.

Could you be suffering from some mild depression? Even devout Christians can become depressed it is a chemical imbalance, nothing more. If the feeling lasts for more than 2 weeks talk to your doctor about it.

In the mean time try to hang with friends and do things you enjoy.

Yes I do. I am like you. I am not lonely for God. I think we just are getting the respect and appreciation that we deserve or it could be that we are depressed.

It's almost like clockwork - almost every Friday night. I can probably set a watch by it. Don't really understand why it's on Fridays and not any other day, but it's been like that for years now, and it doesn't matter much if I'm out doing stuff or just relaxing at home.

Loneliness is psychological. Same as sadness, happiness, temperamental etc. Most of the time it is temporary and short lived. So don't be despair... it is normal. It happens to all of us.
