Did you find a job on monster? Or is that just a joke?

Yes, I too have had taken a job offered through Monster. Those "business opportunity" positions are annoying, learn to simply delete, don't even bother to answer - they'll consider it a "conversation".
Use some of the Monster resume guidelines to use the catch-phrases that the filters will catch. An employer doesn't actually pick your resume personally, he buys the opportunity to initiate filters to pick out all the resumes that meet his criteria. And others actually pay to advertise an opening in their company. Be persistent and update your resume regularly.

I got recruited straight off monster from my resume posting for an excellent job in my field. Yes I also got a lot of sales "job leads" etc, but filtering that out is just part of it. That was in california. Then I moved back to the midwest and had better luck with careerbuilder, although I got my current job by submitting my resume to a recruiting company that places a lot of professional positions. I am a mid career professional employee. The biggest keys IMO for job hunt are 1. your resume should be as good as it can possibly be, always keep working on it, and 2. multiple exposure points - use every resource out there that you can, start with the biggest and work your way down. Start with the ones people mentioned here, then go to the biggest placement/temp/recruiting services - most of them do permanent placement and you can specify that's what you want; then after you hit all those and you are actively answering ads off the big websites then go on to search online for specialty sites in your field. For example computer professionals have dice.com.

Good luck!

I found one job. I think it was through Monster. It was at a religious school, not the exact job I was looking for, but the hours had been good. I get a lot of calls from temp agencies and places that sell cell phones to come work for them. Try Yahoo!Jobs, or CraigsList for your area.

I got a lot of "come be an insurance saleman" type offers; some repeatedly, when I would "renew" my resume. They had nothing to do with my work experience or desired position statements.

So far I have not met anyone personally who has used it as advertised. But, given it's size, I may have tried to use it where it's not the way to go (central states). It may have worked on the west/east coasts or along the Great Lakes.
