Ugghh, my mom used to watch Jeopardy every night and deprive me of all of the cool shows on Nickelodeon. She also used to watch Rescue 911 and force me to watch it with her. The reasoning was that if I ever faced an emergency situation, I would know how to safetly react but I really only cared about watching Clarissa Explains it All and Are You Afraid of the Dark.

The Waltons. Hawaii 5-0 was on at the same time. I wasn't allowed to watch it because of the "violence". I used to hang out in the kitchen where we had a small black and white tv and sneak watching it. The only episode I remember though was when someone was pretending to be a cop and he killed people. Wonder if that's why I've always been afraid of cops.

The Carol Burnett Show.
I hope some of you can remember the very best variety show that ever aired. Anyway, I came on at 9pm CST on Saturdays. We kids were in grade school and had to go to bed at 8:30pm, 9pm on Saturdays.
I would lay there and just strain my ears to hear in coming from the living room. Even just the audio was great.
They didn't deny my favorite show, I just didn't get to watch it. I still love to watch the reruns of it when I can find them.

They didn't deny me, but they wouldn't let me watch Twilight Zone or Outer Limits when I was about 5 back in the '60s. I remember sneaking behind chairs and watching it anyway. One of my earliest favorites was the one about the 'pig people' (w/ Elly Mae).
Later, my Mom had her own TV for Dynasty, etc. and Dad & I would watch westerners and funny stuff together.

My mom used to change the channel when Magnum PI came on til she got a good look at Tom Sellek then they would watch it together! My brother for the cool car and my mom for the hot guy ----she even had a poster of him over the washer machine in the laundry room.

Actually it was just me, my mom, and my brother.. didn't have a dad so he couldn't hog the TV like a lot of dads do, but she never watched something and made us miss our shows. I watched something every night and so did my brother, but she very rarely watched anything unless it was after we went to bed. We were spoiled though and now she is regretting it. :)

Dad always hogged the TV, still does. You can't get too absorbed into one program because he constantly flips the station.
