Well I had a dream about it last night this just reminded me and in my dream book it just said "it is a sign of ambition maybe that you need to dream higher or you need to focus on what you are wishing for! If you dreams are too realisitc aim a little higher" But whatever the reason I hope you wished upon it! I believe theres a reason you looked up at that point though if you've never seen one before, even thoug apparently they're just "junk from the sky"

It is the early beginnings of an annual meteor shower. The perseids. I have seen several between 11pm - 2ish in the last few nights looking towards the constellation The Plough they come from the right over your shoulder and can be quite bright. in a dark sky they leave visible trails that can last up to 20 seconds or so. they are named after the constellation containing their radiant (the origin of the meteoroids, usually a dead comets path) in this case Perseus. whilst in space, the minute particles are called meteoroids. upon entering the atmosphere, they become Meteors. It is only when/if they hit the Earth that they become meteorites. ( so the Americans couldn't even get that right !)
Perseid activity can be seen from the last week of July through to the third week of August. The Full Moon of Aug 9 will make observations difficult around Perseid maximum. However it is worth bearing in mind that the Perseids are rich in bright meteors and thus even with the moon present in the sky, if you observe with the moon outside your field of view, you are still likely to see higher observed rates than those seen for some other showers in moonless skies ! The highest observed rates on any given night are likely to be seen when the radiant is highest in the sky late in the night.

It means you have witnessed a meteor, travelling at high speed,
burning up as it enters the Earth's atmosphere.
In November each year a meteor shower is visible in the night sky. These meteors are very common and the MEANING is they were not big enough to survive the journey and strike the Earth as a meteorite.
Evidence exists of meteorite craters, of immense size, being formed by the impact of huge meteorites.

Shooting stars are just meteors crashing down and burning at the same time. Nothing really special about that. You just looked up at the right moment. That's called luck or coincidence.

It simply means that you were lucky enough to witness a meteor shooting across the sky.
And, we happen to be in the midst of the Delta Aquariad Meteor Shower (I'm pretty sure that's the name). That's probably why you saw it.

Its just a little piece of rock burning up in the upper levels of the atmosphere.
There are all sorts of superstitions relating to shooting stars if you believe in that.

You have seen a shooting star, lucky you. That is exciting because not everyone has really really seen one.
