At one point in time, blacks were not considered human beings but property; therefore, had no rights of a citizen. I forgot the case but that actually went all the way to the supreme court and failed to be overturned.

It amazes me that we seem to be going back in time when it comes to equal rights.

The only argument that the opposing side has is religious based. Then when you bring up separation of church and state they try to bring up the forefathers who used some religious based ideas to form our government.

What they fail to see is that this is called 'progression'. Just like when the forefathers failed to give blacks rights then over time, we as society realized that was wrong then corrected it.

A lot of other countries have realized that homosexuality has been declared completely mentally stable by the Association of Mental Health after many many studies. (Before the 1960s it was considered a mental disorder)

There is no basis whatsoever for the denial of the right of two homosexual people, being of adult age, to form a union recognized by the state that gives them the same rights of a heterosexual couple. Like you said, gay ppl pay taxes too, are also citizens, and fight/die for their country.

The problem is that many heteorsexual people use their religious beliefs to oppose it then they go on to say that it will influence their children. Many things ppl disagree with influence all of our children. It is up to each of us to teach our children right from wrong as we see it.

Some try to say 'gay ppl r ramming it down their throats' with shows like Will and Grace. I say.. then don't watch it and do gay ppl not have every right to have shows on tv about their lifestyle in an appealing way.

They fail to realize that gay ppl have to tolerate the heteorsexual lifestyle and beliefs being rammed down their throats.

Also, us gay ppl would be more than willing to withdraw our argument/protest if the states would stop giving heteorsexual couples special rights. ie, next of kind rights, tax dependents, heathcare of spouse, inheritance laws, foreign spouse citizenship rights, etc... They could still have their sacred marriage in their churches under GOD, just no special rights for it by the state.

You're right. Everyone pays taxes, and everyone has the right to love whomever they choose.

If they want to get married, I say let them, but not in a church (because remember, it is considered unholy, depending on what religion you are, not to mention that will open up an entire NEW can of worms)...

I don't see why a gay couple cannot share a last name, and make their love legal with the sacred act of marriage.

Perhaps the general population feels that gay marriage would somehow take away the sanctity from Brittney Spear's one night elopement that ended in annulment the next day.

People don't choose the color of their skin. However, people who are homosexual/bi-sexual can either choose to practice, or NOT (as I have, by the way, not because I'm terrified of not having any "rights", but because I feel it's a sin).
Also, please remember that the government is in place to try to serve EVERYONE as best as they can. The Christians have a problem with same-sex marriage. The homosexuals have a problem with NOT being able to get married. So...why don't the two groups compromise?
In addition, it's important for the country to take a united stand on something like this. If it reverts to the states, it's not fair on the homosexuals, because it would be legal in one state, and not in another. If it's made completely legal, the entire Bible-belt would probably secede, and I'd be happy to make my home there, although I prefer living in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.
I guess it was okay to illegalize slavery based on morality, but to keep same-sex marriage illegal based on morality is discrimination?
I'm not saying that it was wrong to illegalize slavery. I'm saying that it can't be okay to make a law based on morality for one thing, and not for another. Whether one likes it or not, our country was founded on Christian principles.
Also, Rome, even as "liberal" as they were, and how widespread homosexuality was, never even considered legalizing same-sex marriage.
I say again, compromise. Civil unions, or even a "commitment ceremony"; they can have the ceremony, they can commit themselves to each other for the rest of their life, but for the Christians' sake, don't call it marriage.
It has nothing to do with economics, and everything to do with fair politics.

The reason Bush and others don't want gay marriage is because he doesn't want gays to get the same benefits as married gay couples, it's kind of the last thing he has that can make him feel superior to gays. Hes a bigot and gay marriage doesn't affect him so he should shut up.

Vanessa seems to be ignorant of the fact that there are, indeed, "homosexual" animals.

If you're determined to cling to a bigoted belief, at least have the common sense to educate yourself on the point, first.

But then that might strip you of your bigotry, wouldn't it?

Stay ignorant. You'll be happier.

As far as the public obsessive fretting about gay marriage...they've been deliberately steered into that ridiculous concern by a government that wants to Distract From Iraq.

And damned if it hasn't worked...

People in general are afraid of change. This is why they are so fussy about gay marriage. Personally, I really don't care who gets married, as long as they love and respect each other.

Because people are ignorant and hateful. Right or wrong isn't an issue. Lots of people think divorce/remarriage is immoral, but that's legal. Oh, and there ARE documented cases of homosexual behaviors in other species besides humans. So don't speak unless you're sure of something, you just sound like the ignorant bigot you are.

it's against God

What's the big deal? It's not natural. If they wanna do it, then fine. If it wasn't right, then they wouldn't be dying of diseases. Oops, sorry, they are (and don't say AIDS isn't a gay disease).

RIGHT - ALL IN FAVOR OF GAY MARRIAGE JUST BUY INTO THE BIG HOLLYWOOD LIE. TALK ABOUT A BUNCH OF SHEEP!

Pick and choose their Bible passages.

The Bible says we should lynch philaderers and adulterers. Obviously the congress is not going after 'those' people

PS: Many bird species and animals are gay. Giraffes for example are gay to the tune of 20%... read zoology or look it up
