which model is it? 740 or 240... its either your ignition barrel. ive already gone thru 2.... and as mines an automatic, teh selector mechanism doesnt find neutral or park, so starting it is a nightmare. i stripped it away and discovered teh track was worn away... so i have discovered a way of jiggling the gear shift, with the ignotion in the start pos, until it turns over and fires...which it does ever time coz its diesel.

i have A screwdriver in the ignition as volvo, =refused to honour their guarantee on the new ignition barrel coz it was 4 days outside the guarantee period. (its only done 4000 miles) but hey, ill now tell anyone i can theyre a bunch of miserable penny pinching cheapskates... and coz im in a wheelchair i asked them if theyd take it to the showroom...80 quid! which is fine in principle, but its less than 400 yards away... like i said cheap.

it could be a number of things but start with testing starter and alternator for they could be faulty then check your codes some cares of this type if you turn the key on and watch for your check engine light and count how many times it blinks and this can give an idea of the problem for these codes help find the problems and each number of blinks is a code and can be looked up or you can call a mechanic and tell them the code and they may be able to tell you what to do.
