I think it's that our society doesn't really place that much importance on social skills... stuff like intellectual intelligence is considered much more important than emotional intelligence. Parents don't seem to teach their children (or ask that their children be taught) social skills.
Also, I think that as we become a more technologically advanced society, we lose our facility with face to face contact. We're so used to emailing, IM-ing, etc... other generations are much more used to phone calls, letters, and lunch-time meetings.

I think people get busy with their own lives and spend so much time invested in maintaining the relationships they already have that they're not interested in putting the immense amount of time required to develop new friendships. Cultivating and maintaining friendships takes a LOT of time and effort, and a lot of people would rather expend that effort on an intimate relationship and children.

Because certain people are shallow and don't like to accept people out of their clique. I'm an independent person, and it's actually quit fun. I have some friends but I pefer to spend time alone. No fighting, lying, or anything bad goes on when you're by yourself, because it takes 2 to tangle.

i have lots of friends and a few very close friends (the ones i actually trust)... and yes it can get hard to keep in touch with such busy schedules (work/college). but as for me
i always keep in touch by phone/email and i try to hang out with all the ppl i talk to as much as possible. another fact that can make friendships go apart (even for a little while) is when theirs a special person in our lives. they tend to get jealous & not want their partner hanging out with friends. that happened to me!

you should first start a conversation and talk about things that interest both of you. I tried to befriend businessmen older than me and had no luck. simply because our interest are different. so i would go for people my age. good luck

Mybe it's because people have their likes/dislikes and routines so set by the time they reach adulthood that they are wary to disrupt that
