Could someone tell me if this is serious? I have a automatic transmission Chevy Malibu and it has 70,000 miles on it. Lately, I have noticed that the car jerks once in a while when I am slowing down or speeding up. Especially when I am slowing down and then when i try to go back up to speed. Like from 55 miles per hour down to 25 and back up to 55 miles per hour. I sense that it is during gear changes. Is this a serious problem or is this something that can be taken care of with routine maintenance? This car has a bad exhaust valve (happened at about 60,000 miles) anyways, numerous electrical problems, and the chinese steel rotors rusted out at about 2 years. So I would probably sell it if there was a serious or costly transmission problem. I bought this vehicle new about a little over 5 years ago and have not really been happy with the problems that it has had with such low mileage.

This problem is probably secondary to the engine trouble. If you have plans on getting another car soon, this one will make it. Good luck.

Check your transmission fluid degree. It was once very ordinary for preservation techs on the ones Saturns to mistakenly drain the transmission, alternatively than the engine, while doing an oil difference. The intent for that's a mixture of inexperience, as good as ,while you're underneath that auto and watching up on the engine and transmission, your transmission takes a clear out that appears precisely like an oil clear out. I have noticeable many many regular provider techs see the clear out at the transmission part and expect that's the engine, and pull the drainplug at the transmission. The oil clear out is truthfully hidden above the force axle, and is alternatively small. It is surely, any person pulled the unsuitable drainplug, and alternatively than fess up, they positioned the plug again in and despatched you for your approach. If this isn't the case, AAMCO begins at approximately 1783.00 for a base overhaul, and from there, relies on what difficult materials have got to get replaced. Usually finally ends up round 2500.00 with a three yr/50k guarantee. I could assess the transmission fluid degree earlier than using it, and likewise name the store that modified your oil. I believe your trouble will probably be constant with a couple of quarts of transmission fluid.

The Chevy Malibu has had a number of tranny problems. The auto transmission is electronic and the number of glitches that can occur are countless. Time for a new car, as trying to track down the source of your problem will use up every penny you have before it is fixed. The exhaust valve has nothing to do with your trans problem, but may in fact be causing some of your symptoms.

It's possible that your bad exhaust valve is causing the problem, get the transmission fluid and filter changed and see if it still does it.
