UFOs. They are real. UFO stands for 'Unidentified Flying Object', not 'Hey! Look Over Here! An Alien Spacecraft!'
UFOs don't necessarily have to be alien space ships. They can be anything that flies and cannot be recognized as an actual something.
In the end, they are real. They just don't have to be aliens.

Real in the sense that people see things in the sky they can't explain? Yes.
Real in the sense that the things people see in the sky are extraterrestrial? No.

the knowledge has been past down through blue bloods and secret societies ever since
