Generally speaking...get the best fences possible. You may need to run a hot wire on the inside of the fence to keep goats from standing on them.

Get the best quality, healthiest goats you can. Keep up on vaccinations like C&D, use good quality feed and a solid feeder that the goats cannot stand in. If they get their feet in it they won't eat everything. You will quickly see the rumors goats eat anything are FALSE. They're notoriously picky. Keep the buck housed separate and be tough but gentle in handling him. Never rub his face or entice him to butt/play - if he learns to respect people he won't be nasty later.
Plenty of clean water that - again - they can't step in.

Learn to disbud kids to eliminate horns...it's safer and cheaper and easier on the goat than dehorning. Invest in a tattoo kit and learn to tattoo the ears for identification.

Have dry housing for them...goats can tolerate cold as long as they're dry. They're miserable when wet

hey,
I own goats have for years, last year we had 32 lol but we have reduced in size now. Its sad to see them go too. I live in Australia and own dairy goats. I love them to bits. I show them at major shows and stuff although its not good for me to teach them to shake hands for food lol because when the judge comes they put their hand up trying to shake. haha its funny to watch. Well anything you need to know just email me at bedazzled_goat@yahoo.com.au and all your queries will be helped. If you need any help with the goats or anything i have tons of books and stuff here to reply with. I know one thing for sure, try to get the friendliest goats you can! We used to have one that would just wait for us to turn our back on her so she could ram us on out butts! Pretty funny, but after a while, it gets tired!
