It depends, true geckos, the kind that don't have eyelids and can climb glass, don't make good pets, since they aren't handleable and tend to bite or try to escape. Fun to feed and look at though. Leopard geckos (not true geckos, have eyelids, canNOT climb glass) are fairly tame, personable lizards that don't get too big and will tolerate a moderate amount of handling.

Really depends upon which species of gecko you are considering. Some Geckos are really good pets, others are not. For example Tokay geckos are sort of the pitbulls of the gecko world whereas your common leopard gecko is like a slow lazy basset hound. If you want to learn more about Geckos I would suggest going to Kingsnake.com. They have factsheets on various reptiles including many for geckos. Furthermore contact one of the many breeders on the site and ask them what gecko they think would work best for your needs.

There are a truthful quantity of straightforward geckos to preserve, however the vast majority of them are corresponding to Leopard or Crested Geckos. Examples contain the African fats-Tailed Gecko and the Gargoyle Gecko. another newbie geckos contain homestead Geckos and Tokay Geckos. homestead Geckos are extraordinarily drab finding and are sort of your stereotypical gecko; you will discover them in Hawaiian resorts each and every so in lots of instances. they are many times used extra for feeding different animals fairly than preserving them as pets. they have a extraordinarily huge-unfold setup with UVB easy and heating and are not very effective approximately coping with. Tokay Geckos are slightly extra exciting in color, with a blue-gray physique and orange spots. they do no longer choose UVB, yet do nevertheless choose heating and are lots better and subsequently require extra nutrition. although, they are very unfavourable to any sort of coping with and could basically chew you in case you attempt it.

My cousin has a gecko, and they are the type of pet that is better just to look at than actually hold and associate with. They aren't very people friendly, and if they are scared, their tail will fall off. (this is a defensive thing. it's supposed to distract the predator in the wild)

They are fun to look at but unless it is a day gecko it will sleep during the day and geckos dont like to be handled very much.

THEY ARE GREAT PETS!!! ESPECIALLY FOR FIRST TIME HERPERS... THE LEOPARD GECKO IS A HARDY AND PRETTY LOOKING HERP TO OWN FOR A CHILD OR FIRST TIMER. THEY ARE RELATIVELY EASY TO CARE FOR AS FAR AS REPTILES GO AND COME IN SOME PRETTY COLORS TOO.... JUST BE EDUCATED WHEN YOU DO DECIDE. BRUSH UP ON CARE NEEDS OF THE GECKO AND BE WELL VERSED WHEN YOU GO TO A BREEDER OR PET STORE. IF THEY CANT ANSWER YOUR QUESTIONS PROPERLY DONT BUY FROM THEM.

I got a leopard gecko on a whim and I'm crazy about the thing, I love it to death. She is pretty mellow and has a very distinguished personality....or...geckoality (?). I recommend a leopard gecko, they are very easy to care for.

Yes, especialy if you have a car. I heard they can baby-sit your kids and people often feel comfortable with them.

I also took a picture of one in Hawaii but it was a bit shy.

I like the ones with red spots on their heads. I don't like the way that if you pick up a lizzard by the tail on accident of accidently pull it a little it can come off! yuck!

I think climate is a bit more important with them than other animals.

I reccomend a bunny rabbit. :) I raise dwarf ones. Sweet, live long, fluffy.... and the poop is easy to clean up hard balls...

We sure think they are! We've had two,and they really are friendly and require mealworms and crickets, with repto-cal, water, heat source, UVA-UVB light on tank and a hide box. They really are so cute and low maintenance once you get the setup!! Bearded dragons are also great pets, a little more money, but very friendly also!!
