Is it the responsibility of an e-commerce business to replace an item if it is stolen/missing after delivery?

This would be for after the package has been scanned as delivered by the shipping carrier.

No, the consumer should bear some of the responsibility, since it is something beyond the control of the company that sent the package. Plus, how can a company know for sure if the package was stolen or if the consumer is just trying to get a free item.

Yes that happened to a watch I bought. I happened to catch the fedex guy just before he pulled away from my house and he called it in and I reported it to overstock.com and they sent me a new one.
