I would suggest:
Metro Beach Metropark
Picnic areas with grills, picnic shelters.
Squirt Zone spray park
1,000 ft. sandy beach on Lake St. Clair
Olympic-sized pool with waterslides
Nature center
Mini-Golf
Kensington Metropark
Picnic area with grills, picnic shelters.
"Island Queen II" boat excursion
Canoe, paddleboat and kayak rental
Disc Golf Course
Petting Farm
Maple & Martindale beaches
Stony Creek Metropark
Picnic area with grills, picnic shelters
Canoe, paddleboat and kayak rental
Disc Golf Course
Baypoint and Eastwood Beaches (no alcohol or glass)
They all have good facilities for hosting family get togethers and pretty nice beach areas.

RE:
Where are the nicest, cleanest beaches near Detroit, MI?
Family reunion approaching. Where can we go that has swimming beach rather than pool and where we are able to bring beer, and grill. Possibly have swings, slides for children and picnic sheltered areas.

Lake Erie is the worst out of all the lakes. I suggest Lake Michigan. The best pool around is 40 minutes south its called Rolling Hills Rec Parks. Its on Stony Creek road I believe in Ypsilanti Township. It has a pool with a slide, a lazy river, a wave pool and a water jungle gym. There are places for grilling and for between $25-100 dollars you can rent a pavillion. The price depends on if you go during the weekend or weekday and the size of pavillion you need. There is also golfing and hiking trails. Its far back in a wooded area so its not very noisy.

If you have access to a boat, there are several islands south of Detroit (just south of Grosse Ile) with very nice beaches. They're not parks, but they have better beaches than most parks do. Otherwise, I'd stick to one of the metoparks, or Sterling State Park in Monroe.

I wouldn't suggest any real beaches, try Metro Beach in Harrison Township, they have a pool with waterslide and play areas. Also Four Bears water park in Shelby Township is great for kids.

I would stay away from Lake St. Clair. That lake sucks. The nicest beaches are on the west side of the state on Lake Michigan. You may be able to find a nice lake in Oakland County, there are several little lakes all over. check out
www.michigan.org
and put in oakland county lake in the search.
Or go with Stoney, it is the nicest metropark in my opinion.

The person who told you Heath Beach is wrong on 2 accounts. First of all Heath Beach was in MILAN, MI and second, it is closed now. So ya don't wanna go there. Second, I agree with the Stoney Creek poster. Clean and lots of fun!
