The blue screen of death (BSoD) is the screen displayed by Microsoft's Windows operating system when it cannot (or is in danger of being unable to) recover from a system error. There are two Windows error screens that are both referred to as the blue screen of death, with one being significantly more serious than the other.

Ahh...the bluescreen of death. That can be very annoying. Read below to learn how to fix it.

The first thing you should get is an antivirus program like Mcafee and an antispyware program like spybot and lavasoft ad-aware (both are free). Try running those to clear your system of unwanted files. System mechanic is also a great program that can judge your system's speed, safety level and clutter level, and then fix the problems. If you could get a hold of that, it should help a great deal.

Now, if the "bluescreen of death" does come up, there are 3 ways that I know of to get rid of it. The first way you don't want to do unless you know what your doing. That way calls for turning off and opening up the computer, discharging yourself on a piece of metal, and making sure everything is secure in their respective places. If your computer memory is malfunctioning, that could be the cause of frequent problems, but so could viruses and spyware.

The second method is to save whatever files you can either by use a cd (if you have a cd burner) or by emailing yourself attachments of saved documents. Then reinstalling the entire operating system. You would have to delete everything in dos. This can also be daunting.

The final method, also the less risky and easiest (for some), is to startup your computer with the windows cd inside, going into the dos menu (F8 button on most computers) and booting to a command prompt. You would then run the commands "chkdsk /r" and "fixboot" and finally "fixmbr." These commands will check and repair your harddrive problems from dos, and fix and create a new boot record (the thing your computer reads when starting up). I rarely have the problem these days, but this method always worked the best for me.
