In all actuality, Doctors prefer that they don't put a patient to sleep for a c-section, this could cause problems for both mother and baby (specifically loss of oxygen and general anesthetic effects on baby that can cause respiratory problems etc...) I had an emergency c-section (20 minutes between my arrival and OR) and the performed a spinal block...... realize that when they use a spinal block or epidural, you WILL probably feel alot of pressure and alot of the movements associated with delivery. IT DOES NOT HURT..... just feels very strange.

Under normal circumstances no. I had an emergency c-section so they put me to sleep but usually they just numb you so that you don't feel anything but can still experience the baby's birth. I really hated that I was asleep through it because I missed it all!

With a normal scheduled c-section you will be given an epidural, just like vaginal birth, and will be alert during the delivery. You will be numb from about the ribs down. If an emergecny c-section is needed you will be given general anesthetic and be unconsious.

Not all the times. It depends on what you want, if you want general anesthesia you will be completely asleep, or you could just have an epidural an be awake through the procedure. I my self had a c-section.

Not in my case. I had an emergency C Section and they put in a spinal block. I didn't feel a thing but got to see my princess as soon as she was born!

They will only put you asleep if it is absolutely necessary.

Now a days they prefer to do a spinal block which leaves you numb from just below the breast bone to the bottom of your toes, it is safer for you and the baby.

I was wide-awake during mine, numb from the waist down, with a drape so I couldn't see them doing it.

I think an emergency c-section they knock you out...my cousin had one of those.

Nope, I had a C-section, and I was wide awake. They just sedate you with Local anesthesia.
