I haven't, but it seems pretty prevalent. Statistics say about one in three or maybe four women has been raped, but that doesn't seem like nearly enough. Statistics are always warped when it comes to the subjugation of women. But then, men wouldn't want to admit to it, either, so their statistics are probably lower than reality as well.

People would like to think that civilization means that people are nicer, more polite, more civil, more cordial. Bulls**t. Civilization gives people ways to avoid detection, ways to cover their tracks, ways to bargain away their punishment. Civilization means more doors to lock, more beds to hide under, more walls to lurk behind. Yeah, in some ways, civilization is nice--you might get some social programs, infrastructure, technology available to the masses, but when it comes to people wanting to dominate others through violence, there ain't a civilized thing about civilization. Abuse is still out there, and what happens to people who abuse their kids? Courts just say, oh, well, we'll take your little playthings (i.e. your children) away and give them to somebody else. Husbands rape and abuse wives--oh, well, that's the husband's right to "discipline" his wife. Inner-city violence--well, we're not going to change the system because that's just how "those people" act in "that place." It's bulls**t, a total load of hypocritical bull based on lies and deceit and cover-ups. Right now, civilization doesn't make people civilized. It's a f**king shame. We need to stop abuse in its tracks, keep abusers away from the innocent that they would like to victimize, and spend way more money on prevention and mental health care and drug/alcohol rehab. This s**t makes me sick, really, just makes me want to hang my head and cry, but we gotta rise up--we can't give up just because we feel bad about it. We can't be overwhelmed--we have to overcome.

I dont think there is as much 'rape' as there has been in the past.

Here an insight might help. My answer will be contraversal:

not even 20 years ago but typically farther back, if you had sex with someone you weren't married too, you were considered a 'sl*t'. or a 'wh*re'. Sorry for the words, but it's true. So, females and males too, would feel uncomfortable while having sex. and somehow the situation would turn into rape. Weither or not they were raped or not, really doesn't matter, they feel they were, because they were stuck in an uncomfortable position, where they felt violated.

But that isn't always the case.

In the early 70's was it understood that rape was happening, where people actually starting coming out, "and getting help for such a traumatic event. "

Origionally rape was pure 'sex', and people often (but not always) take it as rape. It wasn't until WOMEN themselves, feminists mostly, decided that Sex and assault wasn't between two people only, it was an act where women were being put in a condition where they where under control of the man.
Now you have to remember, people still had just regular on top sex, talking about anything else ment they were dirty.... so the typical man on top of the woman, having sex, was the typcial imagergy of having sex.
I'm not saying rape didn't exist, it definantl did, it's even in the bible. (even in the bible there were men raping men).
Even in early america, slaves were raped, Slaves that resisted were well respected amoung other slaves, so most of them resisted.

I'm guess i'm saying, that in that time period, that people are still alive, that lived from 1960-1990. Were in that day in age, where rape was a very open subject to the public. Because women rights, and movements were definantly in teh air.

Now, does this mean tehre was an increase? There's a chance, since men are competative by nature, any 'rapist' would be more turned on by the idea of raping someone they know they could get in trouble for. the idea of the catch i guess i'm saying.
But i personally dont know more than 2 people that has been open about being raped, and we keep pretty close bonds.

but rape has gone down considerably, since the laws, have enforced them more.

only one of my friends has told me that she's been raped. Mind you, there can't be more than ten or so women in the world who would share that kind of info with me if it were true of them. So that makes ten percent. Not very scientific, and I doubt it's accurate.

However, my wife is a shrink and although I don't know anything about her patients I do know that sexual abuse is a very common feature of the stories, much much more so than rape.

As to why men can't control their sexual impulses.... well honestly I don't think that rape has much to do with sexual impulses. The very idea of rape is one of the least arousing concepts I could possibly think of; it poisons the whole idea of sexuality. I have no idea what the forces are that act inside someone's head when they contemplate something like that.

I think the person who suggested that it's something to do with power might have the best idea. But certainly you have to be mentally ill to commit rape. Of that I'm absolutely convinced. Good mental health just isn't consistent with it.

We don't see that because it is less frequent that it happens to men than women (of those reported that is.) It isn't socially acceptable for a man to come out and say that he was raped by a woman. To be brought down to an extreme point of vulnerability by a person of lesser-privileged status would be more embarrassing. People might say "You let a woman do that to you?", which would be an insult to the victims sense of masculinity. Also, commenting on previous answers, men do not rape because of more sex drive. Rape is not about the sex, it's about domination and power.

I think if you count not only the raped victims, but as you've stated, other types of sexual abuse, that would indeed include many females. I'm not sure what it says about the civilized world, but it's not that great, that's for sure.

Plus, believe it or not, and I know there aren't as many, but some guys get raped, too.

Visit the Rape Crisis site, officially the accepted figure is 1 in 4. It says everything about our cultured, civilised society that you need to know.

Rape has nothing to do with sex, its about power over another, aggression and anger. Male on male rape is about dominance and humiliation.

If rape were about sex, why is the youngest recorded victim 6 months old, and the oldest in her eighties?

Not raped, but taken advantage of. He was a few years older (3)and I thought it would be cool to get involved since he was 18 and I was almost 15. He wouldn't let me out of the car and kept grabbing me and pulling on me. I hit him in the nuts and ran.

Way way to high, lock them up and throw away the key. Rape can be like Murder to some women as their live is not worth living afterwards. If you ruin someones else life deliberately your life should suffer equally.
