On any given month a women has about a 25% chance of getting pregnant from having unprotected sex. Most doctors will give a couple a year to become pregnant before they will investigate for infertility. If the man is shown to be fertile the doctor will then perform a series of tests on the woman to see what the problem is:

physical examination
A complete physical examination (including a Pap smear and testing for infection) will be necessary.

ovulation evaluation
An evaluation of ovulation function using an analysis of body temperatures and ovulation called the basal body temperature chart, or with ovulation prediction methods using urine samples, may be recommended.

hormone testing
Hormone testing may be recommended, as certain hormones increase and decrease in production at various times in the monthly cycle.

ultrasound
Ultrasound can show the presence of follicles (the sacs containing developing eggs) and the thickness of the uterine tissues. Ultrasound can also show abnormal conditions such as ovarian cysts or fibroids (benign tumors in the uterus).

x-rays
A hysterosalpingogram may be recommended. This test uses a radio-opaque dye injected into the cervical opening to visualize the inside of the uterus and determine if the fallopian tubes are open.

The exact reason for the infertility will depend upon the course of action. In about 10% of cases of infertility the doctors cant find a reason why the women isnt becoming pregnant.

If you are having regular cycles and your GYN hasnt spoken to you about any possible problems assume that you are fertile until you are proven otherwise....

The first indication is a missed period, however you can take HPT up to 4 days before a missed period. My biggest sign on pregnancy was fatigue. Please email me if I can offer more information I would be happy to help.

How old are you? Apparently you're too young to be sexually active, since you're asking this question. Ask your mom and go to planned parenthood to get on birth control. Please don't bring a baby into this world, you're definitely not ready.
