Especially when you have the Yanks. I mean is it loyalty or something?
I mean, growing up inSTL I'm kinda an outsider with this whole thing.

Because some fans are fans and not frontrunners who only root for a team because they might win every year. Past history means nothing. How many of NYY's world series championships were you alive for? One of the greatest Yankees of all time, Don Mattingly, never played in the post season. Most fans, not yankee fans, root for a team with their heart. Yankee fans root for the yankees so they can brag.

Well, they had two NL teams for a long time so those fans did not want to cheer for the Yankees and became Mets fans. Mets fans also tend to be ones from Queens and out to Long Island (i.e., suburban folks and less organized crime figures). Many used to say cheering for the Yankees is like cheering for GM. The Yankees also come across as arrogant and have that swagger and the Mets fans (although they are all New Yorkers and can fire off zingers with the best of any fans but Mets fans tend not to throw batteries at opposing players) from the start were more into having a good time .

The city is HUGE, man, not like St Louis and there is more than enough there to support two teams. Even so StL had two teams for awhile so I'm sursprised you haven't learnt the two teams in one city history from your grandparents.

I can't speak for Mets fans in New York, but my assumption is that they like rooting for the underdog, much like a Cubs fan... On the rare occasion that they win, it makes it that much more special. If I were a Yankee fan, I'd get tired of always winning -- it takes some of the fun out of being a fan...

cause the mets are better than the yankees. Mets are for the people who dont like seeing gay-rod play, and for the people who root for the Underdogs. Plus, it makes a great rivalry. Both New York teams, only a bourough away.

they don't really, it's almost a sin to not like the Yankees here. (I'm a cubs fan, it doesn't bode well)

The Mets are the team you can go see play for like $20 and not care.
