Agreed it sounds like a carb that needs cleaning. Maybe just water in bowl. happened to my accord (87) Run dry gas next 4-6 tanks of gas to see if it helps.
since it runs at other speeds, see if there is a set screw to change low idle. May need a manual to figure out for sure. best of luck

Probably idle is set to low if you have a tachometer it should be around 7-800 RPM for manual little higher for automatic. Not sure what screw will adjust it. Best thing is to search for a Toyota forum on the internet. If it does it only in hot weather could also be a vapor lock from too much gas

Just another possibility. If it is an automatic, it could be the lockup mechanism. The transmission torque converter has a solenoid that locks to prevent slipping at highway speeds. It should disengage when you slow down. If it doesn't, it is just like braking a standard shift without pushing in the clutch. It stalls.

Hope this helps.

Sounds like the EGR valve. Pull the vaccum line off that goes to it and put a screw in the vaccum line. Check all other vaccum lines for leaks. Good luck.

These trucks were famous for this problem. Get the carb rebuilt. The low speed jets are plugged.

The float for the carb must have a hole in it or you may have dirt in the carb. It's a easy fix.
