The moon is made of cheese isn't it?

A better questio would be why would we go back again via TAXPAYER FINANCING. The milestone has been passed. If there's any reason to go back now, it should be done in the the private sector, whenever advanced in technology make that feasible.

Ego contests between nations and exploration are no justification for putting taxpayers further and further in debt (EVERY person has their own pet projects, anything space-oriented is yet one more -- so get in line). All taxes are collected a the point of an implicit gun. The private sector is consensual. Having a majority doesn't make a wrong right.

Nasa is planning an unmanned mission to the moon in 2008. They're going to crash into the moon to look for water.

We may have never went to the moon. A better question may be when will we go to the moon?

Good question!
On one hand, I would say when the space program is ready to set it up as a space station in preparation for Mars exploration.
On the other hand, I would say if the space programs stays so underfunded that we have to launch our shuttles with breath held because they are about the equivalent of a 1972 Ford Pinto, we won't be going much farther than up in the air & back again.

They're hoping by about 2020, but don't count on that. Knowing the pollies on Capitol Hill, they'll make funding cuts and delays creep in for sure. They've got no initiative or foresight. I don't think any of them have long term dreams for the country or the planet as a whole....except for what their next election campaign is going to be funded by.

NASA will take years to get there because of a lack of space funding (most of NASA's budget is not allocated for space exploration). Scaled Composites will probably make it withing the decade since they have already made it to space and testing how to dock with ISS.
