why does my hard drive show 127gb when really its a 300gb?

Sounds like your operating system doesn't
have large drive support. It depends what your using
windows, tivo, etc.

If you are using anything other than Windows 2000 or Windows XP, it won't be able to see the entire drive until you install some third party utilities, usually included with the hard drive. It may also be due to your motherboard, if that is the case, put the utility CD in your drive and reboot, it should be bootable and will make adjustments or flash your BIOS so your motherboard will be able to recognize it.

Is that free vs total?

If the TOTAL drive space is 127 and it only shows 300 you may simply need to partition the extra space.

START --> PROGRAMS --> Adminsitrative Tools --> Computer Management

Drill down to Disk Management and you can see your drives and any unpartitioned or unformatted space.

It's using the rest to run your programs, antivirus, etc.
