Two suggestions. First one--wait 2-4 weeks, then try again. Second one--don't bother. Wait another few weeks, then offer a regular cup. Until about 15 years ago, almost no babies used sippy cups. Plain, unspouted cups were given between 6 and 12 months, and babies did just fine.

Try giving him an empty sippy cup for a few days to play with, it will get him used to holding it. What are you giving him in it? Try to give him some juice in it, and show him how to hold it. Also, if it is his first time using one you shouldn't give him a spill proof one because he won't know what to do with it. Take the spill proof piece out of it so he can get it without sucking too much, once he realizes what he will get out of it he should take it with no problem.

Not every kid is "by the book" maybe he's just not ready! But if you really want him to do it they have a cup at like Wal-Mart and Toys-R-Us that is a trainer, it goes from bottle to soft nipple like sippy cup to hard sippy cup to regular cup to straw i think....it's very helpful! And it's cute... :)

Give him time. When he's ready, he'll use the sippy cup.
Around age 2, if he still refuses to use it, hide all his bottle and binkies and just leave a sippy cup where he can see it. When he's thirsty, he'll jsut go for it himself.

If he still wants his bottle, put something bitter or spicy on the nipple and something sweet on the tip of the sippy cup. That's what I suggested to an aunt and she told me it worked.

Use one with a soft sippy nipple and offer him water/juice in it while allowing him to continue his milk in a bottle. Don't try to switch all liquids to a sippy at once.

He is trying to tell you that he aint ready for it yet. Dont force it on him or else he will resent the sippy cup.

well i babysat a little boy who was 11 months old, and i got him to go to the sippy. All i did was give him a lick of a sucker, and rub the sucker on the top of the sippy, and stuck it in his mouth, and it worked! so if i were you id give that a try.

Give him some time. My doctor said to wait until my kids were 1 before I tried the cup. He will do it when hes ready.

Start with the new cup out it has a nipple and regular lid, it might be easier to change that way.
