Will I have to go back and get my BS in History before I can enter grad school? I took a lot of History classes for my African-American Studies minor.

Also, what kind of job can i get with a history masters, beside teaching. Will I have to teach to obtain my Masters? Can't I just assist or do research? I'm scared to death of public speaking.

You might have to take some prereq's but I highly doubt you'll have to get a BS in history before you can go to grad school. You can do anything with your master's degree that you want. You won't have to teach. .As far as jobs, maybe in a museum??? Assisting & research sounds like a nice job.... Go on monster.com or something to scope out jobs with the key word history.

You don't have to get another BS, but you will need to take
whatever prerequisite courses are required by the history
program for the degree you want.

So ... if you took lots of the required courses during your
other studies, you may not have to take any pre-reqs. If not,
well, you may end up taking a LOT of courses before starting
your masters work.

As for work you can get without public speaking? I guess
there are research positions out there, but generally people
use teaching to pay the bills until that begins to pay back.

You can probably get over your fear of public speaking.
You may never like it, but you may get good at it anyways.

It depends. Usually you can get in if you have had a strong social science background with a lot of history courses (even if it wasn't your major). Some other options include museum work, but this might require public speaking too.

Some programs are Master's degrees with a focus on teaching high school. I would suggest you join a Toastmaster's group in your area. This is a group of people who get together for lunch and work together to improve their public speakings.

Contact the colleges where you want to apply and ask them.
They probably have a "contact us" email on the website. If you can't find it call the department head of the college and ask. The admissions department can also probably help. Ask the department head and admissions your other questions about jobs etc. Be pro active.

it seems like you are undecided with what to do with life yet. just take a breather and think about what you want to be in five years and if you will be happy with your decisions. no one here can tell you what's right for you. your only limitation is your imagination. the U in U makes U the U that U are. reach for the skies and don't look back...good luck!!
