My car will get me 40 miles... a Hummer would get you about 3 feet.

It depends on the car that you drive. I have a Ford Escape 2WD/Manual/2.0 4 cyl. and I can go about 24 miles on a tank in mixed or highway driving. A Volkswagen Golf TDI (which is diesel) can go 49 miles on one gallon of diesel. A Hummer H2 can only go about 8 miles in the city on one tank. Some people have gotten 66 miles in one gallon the Honda Insight.

If you only have 1 gallon, it won't go as far as the rated MPG of the vehicle because the fuel pump won't be able to get all the gas in the tank. You'll probably only be able to get about 1/2 to 2/3 of your MPG.
