What a cool question!

I keep only what I need in checking, since it's a no-interest account.

If my attached savings goes below $1,000, I have to start making some changes.

Because I have money saved in different areas (savings, mutual funds, retirement, stocks) it is unlikely that I will ever be broke again, however it took a LONG time to get here.

I still bounce checks, occasionally, and I don't stress out when I do!

I'm seriously broke when there is no money in my account, I don't have a job, and my credit card is maxed (I've had it maxed a few times, but that was when they only allowed me $500, now I'm at $1250). I haven't had it maxed now though. I never have any money in my account, but I don't have anything to pay for really, so all of my money just goes to junk (I'm only 19).

We usually try to keep $500.00 in our checking account. In case an emergency or something like that comes up. If it gets under that I do start to worry about being broke.

Depends on your income and expenses, now doesn't it?
If your expenses exceed your income in such a way that you will have no money at all in three months, then you're broke now.
