On the news last night a reporter stated that SCORES of Lebanese people have been killed from the bombings.

20 - originally from swedish - it refers to lines cut in a piece of wood to tally One 'score' equalled 20 items etc

A score = 20. Like what Lincoln said, four score and seven years ago, 4 x 20 = 80, 80 + 7 = 87, so 87 years ago...
