I disagree with those of you who say there IS enough gas. The whole of Western Europe is becoming dangerously reliant ob Russian gas. The Russians use gas as a political weapon - witness what happened last winter to gas supply in the Ukraine from Russia. The problem we in the UK have is we have no overall energy supply plan. We SHOULD be investing right now in Nuclear powerstations, but we aren't. We should be investing in a lot more Heat & Power stations, but we're not. We should be investing a lot more in renewable and biofuels but we're not. And finally but most importantly we should be investing a lot more in conservation of energy, but we're not!

As to what we individually should do:
1) Fix your gas prices NOW either thru your current supplier or switch supplier 2) Take personal responsibility for your environmental "footprint" and reduce it - you know what to do, you just need to think before you do those energy and resouce intensive activities.

Possibly, but i would say this is as a result of greedy gas companies. Lets not forget that we have a water problem in the south because the water company isn't doing its job but they too put the prices up.

Eventually we will all run out of Gas. 15 years supply was the last estimate I read. More importantly what are you going to do about it? How many UK houses are heated and get hot water by Gas? 80% I would have thought. Just think we have an electrical energy crisis now but if 80% of people had to switch from gas to electricity we could simply not provide enough electricity, in fact I don't even though our infrastructure could deal with it (but I hope some one can tell me I am wrong)

Gas will be around as long as there are people to buy it. There is no shortage anywhere, the companies and the producers are bottlenecking production in order to create the illusion of a shortage whereby they raise prices.

Shell (a british oil company operating in nigeria burns off a lot of our natural gas. maybe if they exploit rather than waste this gases, prices might come down all over the world. Please talk to them. a lot of the gas you run your homes with comes from places where the people are so poor that they have to cook with saw dust, wood shavings, wood etc.
