I maybe being considered for a position but since I don't know for sure I noticed another job I'd like to apply for within the same company. What would be the proper etiquette? Should I mention it to the other hiring manager? I wouldn't want to affect my chances but at the same time I want to keep my options open.

~this piggy backs my last question :)

No big deal....just apply for the other one. Your name is being kept alive in the HR department....you really like this organization...that's all it shows...

I would be patient and wait until I found out about the position for which I am being considered... I would have probably already asked when a decision would be reached. If it's a long time frame, say more than a month, I'd probably indicate my interest in more readily available positions at the same company.

There is no problem with applying for more than one position in the same company. I do it all the time when I apply for positions at school districts. Sometimes you may be offered both positions and you can choose the one that suits you best.
A company does not get upset when you apply for more than one position, because doing so shows that you are truly interested in obtaining employment with their company; it is a positive thing!

You should talk to someone in human resources, through which dept. I assume you initially applied. Don't go to the manager directly.
