Ah, so you love writing so much that you wouldn't want to do it in your free time?

I'd definitely say do both, but not to actually pin your hopes on making money at writing. I know so many people who are disgruntled with their lives because they want to sit at home and write but sadly that's not where we are as a society right now. Like artists and musicians, most writers have to just try and blend into society as best they can. Or live on benefits constantly peed off at the fact that no one is paying them to sit in front of a grand piano by the sea writing songs.

Definitely keep writing and trying though. But don't let it ruin your life if it doesn't all happen, as I've seen happen quite a few times now.

Hi there 'writer boy'!! Do both. Have a stable-job for your financial security and at the same time start your writing.. That's what I have done, in the past, before I became a retired person.
( I hate the term'Pensioner'..don't you!)

But, just get on with it...Life's too short wasting time thinking about it....isn't it?!

Cheers, and Good Luck to you, Always. God Bless!!

You know this answer to this. If you are a writer, you can't help it. You're going to find a way to be writing. The only real question is whether or not you can make any money out of writing, or whether you're going to need to get a real job. My advice is to write as much as possible, try to get published, and take what work you can get in order to survive. I tend to make enough money from my writing to keep me going about 6 months of the year, and the rest of the time I do temp work to keep my head above water. Good luck!

Without dreams you wouldn't have ambition to try and succeed ...I say follow your dreams but you do have to eat, pay the rent etc so to say, so its best you try and combine both and take it from there. You never know anything until you try, and maybe if your writing becomes established and your making some reasonable income from it then that can be your career.

Good luck and I hope your dreams come true.

your asking a question about it, already shows what kind of writer you would be. Better get a stable job and save the world.

Find a job that you really love doing.
Most people, are in a job they do just for the money ? Find that balance...
Keep the dream of becoming a writer a hobby, for now.
Keep it on the back burner....Write in your spare time...
You may get 'that break' of 'writer' via people you meet ? (contacts/networking)

It doesn't have to be an either or situation. Do what writers do...write. You can do this anytime, anywhere...so you can do both. Get a job that will provide your basic needs...and then spend your remaining time writing. Never give up on your hopes and dreams...simply work toward them.

I have written three novels, none of them published. One of them I wrote relentlessly when I used to commute to work. That was 3 hours a day without fail. You can write a lot in 3 hours. You will get some good advice here but ultimately you will need to write and write until your fingers wear to the bone. Get those ideas and words out of your system and if you happen to strike it lucky, sit back and smile. You are one of the chosen few.........
